Hand-lettered poster for the 2017 Neon Festival based in Norfolk, VA.
NEON, which stands for the New Energy of Norfolk, celebrates the work of local artists and musicians throughout the Norfolk Arts District. The Neon Festival occurs annually, providing a place where locals can enjoy public art and music.
The design visually reflects the imagery of electrical circuitry, coming together to produce the typographic treatment of NEON—much like how the festival brings together the energy of the community.

My mark was inspired by one of my favorite animals, the lion, which symbolizes strength, courage and bravery. The mark is a lion's face adorned with a mane of petals, which visually reflects my name, Aster, a small flower known for its star-like petals.
Aster flowers have long been considered an enchanted flower. In ancient times, it was thought that the perfume from their burning leaves could drive away evil serpents. Today, they're recognized as a symbol of love and patience. The name Aster is derived from the Greek word for "star," which inspired the sharp, star-like quality of the petals.
