I was inspired by the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. — “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” I believe that by creating a positive change in the community, one must simply be the light in the darkness. Love and positivity has the potential to be present, but we must strike the matches in order to ignite it, otherwise, we remain in the dark. Whether it is reaching out to a friend who is going though a difficult time or accepting anyone you meet despite differences, there are many simple acts of kindness we can do to be a light in our community.

NEON, which stands for the New Energy of Norfolk, celebrates the work of local artists and musicians throughout the Norfolk Arts District. The Neon Festival occurs annually, providing a place where locals can enjoy public art and music.
The design visually reflects the imagery of electrical circuitry, coming together to produce the typographic treatment of NEON—much like how the festival brings together the energy of the community.
